Ferran Adell is a professor and researcher in the Faculty of Computer Science, Multimedia and Telecommunications at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). With an academic background that combines philosophy and technology, he holds a degree in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), a Master’s degree in Contemporary Philosophy with a specialisation in Philosophy of Technology from the UAB, and a PhD in Information Technologies and Networks from the UOC. He also trained as a computer technician. His work focuses on generative AI, particularly its application to multimedia creation and education, its integration into professional workflows, and the analysis of its social and ethical implications. His research is organised around three main areas: generative AI, the use of technology to enhance education, and the use of commercial video games as learning environments. These lines of work are developed through a cross-disciplinary perspective informed by the philosophy of technology and digital ethics. Alongside his academic teaching and research, he has a strong track record in teacher training, especially in the fields of digital teaching competence and the educational uses of generative AI. He is also the author of a wide range of learning resources and educational materials for different university programmes, covering topics such as philosophy of technology, digital media creation, interactive design, digital interaction, web development, and educational applications. In addition, he is deeply committed to research dissemination and knowledge transfer, and has delivered numerous lectures, workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, and other public-facing activities. He is the creator and coordinator of the project “Video Games and Education, in Catalan”, an initiative devoted to the study and promotion of the educational use of commercial video games.
