Dr. Vasilis Niaros is an urbanist and regional planner. He holds a PhD in Technology Governance from Tallinn University of Technology (2016) as well as a MSc in Planning and Regional Policy and a five-year BSc in Urbanism and Regional Development from the University of Thessaly.   He is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Urban Transformation and Global Change Laboratory (TURBA) at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, and a Research Fellow at the Ragnar Nurkse Department at Tallinn University of Technology. His research interests include urban commons, smart city, makerspaces, circular economy, sustainability transitions, social policy, and technology. He has supervised PhD and Masters students’ research.   Vasilis is a Core Member at the P2P Lab, a community-driven research hub and makerspace based in Ioannina that is interested in interdisciplinary research on free and open-source technologies and practices. He has also been the Research Coordinator of the P2P Foundation, winner of the 2016 Golden Nica for Digital Communities.    In addition, Vasilis is the Research Coordinator of the Fab City Foundation which aims at promoting the development of resilient and sustainable cities, based on local production and global collaboration.   Through the development of long-standing coalitions with various organizations and institutions, he designs, coordinates, and participates in the implementation of large-scale, international research projects.
