Doctor by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with the thesis El Ciclo de Evolución del Destino Turístico. Una aproximación al desarrollo histórico del turismo en Cataluña 2007. Supervised by Dr. Roser Nicolau Nos, Dr. Gemma Cànoves Valiente.

The R&I activity of the researcher Lluís Garay focuses on the analysis of the transformation of the tourism sector. This activity was initiated from the preparation of his doctoral thesis, related to the historical-economic study of tourism development in Catalonia and continued with the observation of the transformation of different tourism products or typologies, such as rural tourism or cruise tourism. Today it focuses on the following areas:  1) Analysis of the development of the tourism platform economy in different territorial contexts  2) Study of the processes of creation and projection of the image of tourist destinations 3) Analysis of social responsibility and environmental, social and economic justice in the context of leisure and tourism
