Doctor by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) with the thesis Visual object analysis using regions and local features 2016. Supervised by Dr. Veronica Vilaplana Besler, Dr. Xavier Giro Nieto.
The R&I activity of researcher Carles Ventura focuses on the study of computer vision algorithms specializing in object recognition and segmentation in scenes, and also on the area of affective computing for emotion recognition using different data types: voice, text and image. His main research interests are deep learning-based computational learning models and neural networks, combining multiple resources. The main applications of his work in pattern recognition are geared towards:- Object segmentation in videos, taking temporary architectures into account (for example, recurrent neural networks)- Object segmentation in scenes (images or videos) based on a textual description of the object- Recognition of emotions and personality traits using multiple data types (voice, text, image) He is a member of the UOC's Scene Understanding and Artificial Intelligence Lab (SUNAI) research group.
