The R&I activity of researcher Carles Garrigues focuses on the study of security mechanisms for new-generation networks, including ad hoc networks for sensors, vehicles or, in general, objects comprising the so-called Internet of Things. He also studies how the implementation of smart systems in our cities or homes (the so-called smart cities or smart homes) affects their security. His work in this field seeks to contribute solutions that leverage the enormous quantities of data generated by a smart city (or smart home) to detect potentially dangerous behaviours by the systems. He also studies the protocols currently used to interconnect these systems, with the aim of improving their security or minimizing the impact of possible attacks. He is a member of the UOC's K-riptography and Information Security for Open Networks (KISON) research group.
