Doctor by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) with the thesis Securing group based peer-to-peer systems 2009. Supervised by Dr. Juan Carlos Cruellas Ibarz, Dr. Jordi Herrera Joancomartí.

Joan Arnedo-moreno is a full-time professor at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), acting as academic director in the MSc. in video game design and programming. Bsc. in Computer Engineering (UPC, 2002) and PhD in in the Computer Architecture programme (UPC) 2009). Former visiting researcher at Fukuoka Institute of Technology (福岡工業大学). His research experience ranges from computer security and networking, to the use of gameful approaches in education, and the impact of video games on society at large. He has successfully supervised five theses on these different topics, becoming the author of more than 90 articles in indexed conferences and journals, both national and international, and co-general chair of the GamiLearn annual symposium since 2017. Collector of old consoles and all the Zelda saga video games (yes, including the Phillips CD-i ones).
