Doctor by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with the thesis Cambio y continuidad en la política exterior y de seguridad de Japón (1989-2009). La transformación de la Doctrina Yoshida y la adopción de una estrategia Hedging ante el ascenso de China 2011. Supervised by Dr. Nora Sainz Gsell.
Lluc Vidal López’s research focuses on the study of cooperation and conflict dynamics in the Asia-Pacific region. He also analyzes Japan’s foreign policy, China’s rise and its impact both regionally and on the international system, as well as the political systems of East Asia. He participates in several technological innovation projects within the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and has been a member of the GADE research group (eGovernance: Administration and Electronic Democracy) of the Faculty of Law and Political Science. In addition, he directed the Asia-Pacific Research Group (GRAPE) and is currently co–principal investigator of the Research Group on International Relations and International Law (GERD). At present, he serves as Director of the Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at the UOC.
