Sílvia Martínez Martínez has a bachelor's degree in Information Sciences and a European PhD in Communication. She has received numerous awards in recognition of her academic and research career, including a Special Doctoral Award, a Special Bachelor's Degree Award, an Award for Academic Performance from the Government of Valencia and the National Award for Completion of University Studies from the Ministry of Education and Science. She specializes in the study of online journalism, interactivity, audience participation, and new distribution channels and platforms. She has a cross-disciplinary profile in the analysis of emerging communication phenomena. She is an associate professor in the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences, and academic director of the UOC's university master's degree in Social Media: Management and Strategy, and she has taken part in a range of competitive research and knowledge transfer projects. She is a member of the Learning, Media and Entertainment (GAME) research group, which has been recognized as a consolidated group by the Government of Catalonia and she is also a member of the Digital Media Research Observatory (OIMED) and the Network of Excellence in Digital Journalism and Media Convergence (CSO2016-81882-REDT).
