Doctor by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) with the thesis An integrated approach to modelling tutorial dialogues under an overall rhetorical structure 1997. Supervised by Dr. María Felisa Verdejo Maíllo.

Atanasi Daradoumis's R&I activities focus on the study and design of collaborative learning systems with an affective, adaptive, interactive, personalized and context-sensitive approach. These systems can provide efficient computational analysis of context-based learner interactions and, based on the results of this analysis, provide effective cognitive and emotional feedback. All of this is done in a timely manner, which can help in monitoring and evaluating the behaviour, performance and progress of individual learners. His main research interests include emotional intelligence, alternative (holistic) education, learning analysis, online learning, collaborative, affective and adaptive systems, and computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). He is a member of the Internet Computing & Systems Optimization (ICSO) research group at the UOC.
