Doctor by the Universitat de Barcelona with the thesis De la reinvenció de la discapacitat o de l'articulació de nous tipus de trànsit social la pedagogia i les seves formes sensibles 2010. Supervised by Dr. Jordi Planella, Dr. Conrad Vilanou.

Asun Pié Balaguer holds a PhD in Pedagogy from the University of Barcelona and a Diploma in Social Education from the Ramon Llull University. She is an associate professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). She is a member of the CareNet Research Group. Care and Preparedness in the Network Society (IN3-UOC). Her research career focuses on Feminist Disability Studies, medical anthropology and critical pedagogy. She has been (co)director of the postgraduate course in Collective Mental Health (URV-UOC). She has been invited professor in different national and international universities, such as: Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia), Universidad Autónoma de México, Universidad Austral de Chile, Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos (Argentina), Instituto Académico de Educación Social. Academic Department of Social Pedagogy, Montevideo (Uruguay), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (Brazil), Universidad de San Buenaventura (Colombia), Universidad de Barcelona, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Universidad de Vic, Universidad de las Islas Baleares, among others. She has been PI or participated in more than 10 national and international competitive projects. She is a member of the International Network of Researchers and Participants on Educational Integration/Inclusion (RIIE). Since 2022 she is part of the Observatorio internacional de práticas de gestao autônoma da medicaçao (Brazil). External researcher at the Medical Anthropology Research Center, Rovira i Virgili University. She is also currently a member of the Health Care Ethics Committee of the FFCCSM. She has two sexenios of accredited research. Author and (co-) author of more than 20 books and 30 book chapters, author of 40 articles in national and international scientific journals of impact. She has been invited as a speaker on more than 150 occasions in congresses, scientific conferences, seminars, postgraduate courses in Spain, Europe and Latin America.
