Funder: European Commission
Call: Call 2025 - Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education, Key Action 2: Cooperation among organisations and institutions. ERASMUS+ (European Commission)
Of European scope.
The Planetary Health (PH) crisis represents a multi-dimensional challenge to human safety and prosperity, where the (anthropogenic) changes to the environment and other global systems have a profound and, often inequitable, impact on human and non-human health. By increasing access to PH education, we can help produce the next generation of PH change-makers and a future-resilient workforce. However, the majority of educational efforts in this regard are located in high-income-countries, whereas many low-and-middle-income countries are more vulnerable to the effects of the PH crisis, underscoring the vital need for improved educational capacity in these settings. The Capacity-building for Higher education to Accelerate Next-Generation Education in Planetary Health (CHANGE-PH) project aims to meet this need by bringing together 7 HEIs from the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Nepal, and the Philippines to build capacity in higher education in PH. Through active stakeholder engagement, the use of community and challenge-based learning, and a “co-design”, “co-develop”, and “co-deliver” approach, CHANGE-PH will develop 4 accredited, modular courses, created with local community and stakeholder priorities at the forefront. These courses will be delivered to at least 80 students during the project lifetime, with a train the trainer program simultaneously producing the next generation of PH educators. The learnings, experiences, and outputs of the project will be shared in an open and accessible knowledge repository, which will provide access to educational resources and the experiences of the project, furthering the wider exploitation of PH education – both within Asia and world-wide.
