Project H2020-SEAC-2014-1. Ref. 665826 PERFORM
Participatory Engagement with Scientific and Technological Research through Performance
Of European scope.
PERFORM aims to investigate the impact of innovative science education methods based on performing arts in fostering young people engagement with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in France, Spain and the United Kingdom. A considerable percentage of European adolescents is not interested in STEM careers mainly because of a self-perceived lack of skills to deal with such topics. Overcoming the remaining distance between young people and science has never been more urgent in Europe for building a knowledge-based society. To address such challenge, PERFORM will explore a participatory educational process on STEM through the use of scenic arts with secondary school students, their teachers and early career researchers, who will get actively involved in experiencing science. They will reflect on their role in the interaction between science and society and the values embedded in Responsible Research and Innovation. PERFORM will analyse how such approach contributes to foster girls’ and boys’ motivations towards science and strengthen the transversal skills they need for STEM careers and jobs. The communication skills required for teachers and researchers to further replicate the educational process will be also addressed in training toolkits. The project dissemination will be fulfilled by ensuring strong science-policy links and connections with Scientix.
