Of European scope.

The proposed COST Action will offer an opportunity to tackle these challenges respect MAFs, sharing and standardizing the associated study methodologies and exploring the services provided by these ecosystems, as well as management and conservation plans, and restoration programs in European coastal and oceanic waters. The network will be essential to provide a global/international transdiciplinary input of scientific knowledge for a better understanding of the MAF ecosystems in order to achieve the main objective of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, Directive 2008/56/EC), which is to reach Good Environmental Status (GES) for healthy oceans under globalclimate change current and future scenarios. In addition, the network will clearly address the Objective No. 10 of Aichi BiodiveristyTargets, providing necessary knowledge and tools to minimize pressure on MAFs (special attention to coral reefs), in order to maintain their integrity and functioning. This group aims to establish an integrative, holistic and system-wide vision.
