Young people consider Internet as a channel more in tune with their socio-cultural needs and less subject to parental control than other media. Within this context the research project we present explores how certain uses of Internet and social media can promote active citizenship and the political participation in young people. It also proposes the broad general guidelines for Digital Youth Work aimed at social education centres for young people (learning centres to attend during free time or non-formal education environments and institutions). Ultimately, our aim is to develop a critical pedagogical proposal in the digital medium that enhances young peopleŽs analytical skills, stimulating participation and active citizenship through internet use. The three Research Groups, that present the project, have proven experience in the three areas relevant to this proposal: use and adoption of new media and digital technology by young people (Research Group on Learning, Media and Entertainment, referred to as “GAME”); digital citizenship profiles and new cyber participation formats (Cyber Democracy Research Group); and social inclusion and employability through digital learning (Social Education Laboratory).
